Vaulting on horseback
originated as a teaching exercise used by the Romans. It is now a
standalone sport - although also a good training exercise for any
rider.
The horse is equipped with a vaulting surcingle with two handles at the side for the vaulter to hold and a further ring
at the top for exercises such as kneeling or standing on the horse's
back. Competitions are a team event, with eight team members each
performing six exercises, separately. Three riders may perform on
the same horse together at advanced level. |
